Capucana Cachaça

Capucana Cachaça comes from a Brazilian estate distillery founded in 1886 by Christiano Matthiessen, a Danish road engineer and abolitionist who emigrated to Brazil, fell in love with his half-Brazilian, half-German wife Sofía and the colors of the country, and bought the estate with the help of Prudente de Morais, then president of Brazil. The family made furniture, then coffee, and in 1900 began working sugarcane and producing cachaça.

Made from fresh-pressed cane juice rather than molasses, Capucana is bright and expressive with grassy cane, tropical fruit, and a soft, clean finish at 40% ABV. It is the ideal base for a classic Caipirinha with muddled lime and sugar, and it works beautifully in a Batida or in place of rum in a Daiquiri. This 750 ml bottle carries more than a century of family history.
